WTHS Junior Emily Johns Scores 1,000th Career Point
The ball had barely cleared the bottom of the net following a successful three-point attempt from the right corner before Washington Township High School junior Emily Johns was swarmed by teammates and wrapped in a celebratory group hug. The basket went into the books as Johns’ 1,000th career point, making her the 16th player in Minutemaid history to reach the scoring milestone and the first player since 2016 to score so prolifically. The 6-1 center/forward scored the first nine points of the game and finished with 26 in the 49-16 win over visiting Woodrow Wilson High School.
Teammates, friends and family then revealed customized t-shirts with Johns’ number 44 to commemorate the occasion. Johns’ mother, Carolyn, a special education teacher at Chestnut Ridge Middle, serves as an assistant coach on head coach Jenn Natale’s staff and was part of a large contingent representing the Johns family who turned out to celebrate the individual honor and team win.
