WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP – Senior boys soccer player Brett Guetens has been named the Washington Township High School Student-Athlete of the Month for November 2018. The WTHS Department of Athletics is proud to recognize a student-athlete each month during the 2018-19 school year who embodies selfless play and a commitment to their team while promoting team unity and positively influencing team culture both academically and athletically. WTHS’s partnership with the Positive Coaching Alliance has helped to produce an athletic culture of “Honoring the Game,” encouraging athletes to respect all aspects of their sport. The student-athlete of the month demonstrates this commitment.

Guetens was a four-year member of the 2018 state championship soccer program, serving as a team captain. He recently was named to the Soccer Coaches Association of New Jersey all-state team for his work on the pitch, helping lead the Minutemen to the school’s third Group IV state crown. An all-Conference and all-South Jersey selection in soccer, this two-sport varsity athlete (soccer and volleyball) has accepted a scholarship offer to continue his academic and soccer career at West Chester University.

“Brett was a tremendous force for our state championship program during the 2018 season,” WTHS boys soccer coach Shane Snyder said. “He served as team captain, always demonstrating what it takes to be a great teammate through hard work, positive encouragement, sportsmanship and determination. He was a pleasure to coach and will be missed next season.”

“Brett is a young man who placed team above self throughout the entire 2018 season,” WTHS Director of Athletics Kevin Murphy said. “He took his leadership role and modeled what it takes to be a champion on and off the field. I’m proud to say that Brett was a Minuteman, a state champion Minuteman, always honoring the game.”
