Washington Township High School Boys Volleyball Squad Captures County Championship; Caps Memorable Year for Coach
If anyone knows a good Hollywood screenwriter, you might want to direct them to Washington Township High School physical education teacher and girls and boys volleyball coach Barb McBrearty. Her 2019 season could make for a blockbuster movie.
After guiding the Minutemaid volleyball team to a 22-3 record and first-ever Olympic Conference and Gloucester County championships in the fall, McBrearty coached the Minutemen squad to an identical 22-3 record, its first Olympic Conference title in 12 years on Thursday, May 16 and the program’s first-ever Gloucester County Championship the following day.
The top-seeded Minutemen downed third-seeded and defending champion Kingsway, 2-0, in the County championship match.
“Our girls squad won the Olympic Conference on a Thursday and the County championship on a Friday, just like the boys’ squad,” said McBrearty, who announced her retirement at the beginning of the school year. “It’s been a very exciting year. I am so honored to have coached such outstanding athletes and to have shared in their incredible success.”
Members of the 2019 WTHS Boys Volleyball championship squad include: Justin Bautista (captain, Ryan Cleary, Kade Cornelius, Dave Forcinito, Brett Guetens, Tyler Jones (captain), Anthony LaSalle (captain), Bill McCrea, Mike Mulvihill, Marco Santos, Anthony Trivers and Patrick Wilson.
The Washington Township High School Boys Volleyball team captured its first-ever Gloucester County championship on May 17th, downing defending champion Kingsway, 2-0, in the championship match.
