WTHS Gymnastics Team Volunteers at IRONMAN 70.3 Atlantic City
Members of the Washington Township High School gymnastics team manned a water station during the 2019 70.3 IRONMAN Triathlon in Atlantic City, NJ on September 15th, handing out thousands of cups of water and Gatorade, bananas, oranges and ice – and lots of encouragement- to the three thousand competitors. The IRONMAN showcased the talents of triathletes who completed a 1.2-mile swim, a 56-mile bike and a 13.1-mile half marathon run for a total of 70.3 miles.
The race began at sunrise with a 1.2-mile sheltered swim in the back bays of Atlantic City. The bike leg included dedicated lanes on the Atlantic City Expressway and a ride through the city, and the final run ended on the iconic Atlantic City Boardwalk.
“Our girls, and six parent-volunteers, had an opportunity see world-class athletes, as well as first-time competitors and disabled athletes,” WTHS Gymnastics Booster Preisdent Kristine Robinson said. “It was an eye-opening, inspirational experience for the entire team.”
