WTHS Class of 2018 Collects Awards, Scholarships
Members of the Washington Township High School Class of 2018 recently departed with a number of accolades and scholarships that were awarded during the school’s annual Awards Ceremony. The honorees included:
PTO Awards: The following students were awarded $100 in recognition of their positive attitude and commitment to the WTHS community. They were selected as a “pleasure to teach” by the 13 high school departments:

The PTO also awarded 20 seniors with a $500 scholarship. All were chosen by the PTO scholarship committee. The PTO presented the District Art Show awards to five students as a result of their excellence and hard work:

Business Education Department:
The Elaine Brosious Memorial DECA Member Award is awarded to a DECA member who is conscientious, intelligent and who is a civic-minded leader. A check of $200 and a plaque was presented to Alicia Radke.
The Junior Achievement USA of NJ Youth Development Award, sponsored by Junior Achievement USA of NJ, is presented to a graduating senior who has demonstrated a community service commitment through volunteering as a Junior Achievement High School hero. A check of $250 was presented to both Gianna Micolucci and Nicholas Gallo.
The Junior Achievement USA Of NJ Hero Award, sponsored by Anthony Panto, is presented to a graduating senior who has demonstrated a strong commitment of Community Service as a Junior Achievement High School hero, was actively involved in the organization and recruitment of other volunteers and a member in good standing of the BEHS. The award of $500 was presented to Joseph Ricchezza.
The Outstanding FBLA Member Award is presented to the graduating male and female members who best exemplify the ideals of leadership, social intelligence, vocational understanding and civic consciousness. Dominic Leonetti and Stephen Cozzone were each awarded $250.
The Washington Township Chamber of Commerce Scholarship is presented in memory of Linda M. DiBacco, to the graduate who has participated in DECA or marketing education classes and are pursuing a college in marketing and/or communications. The recipients of this award were: Stephen Cozzone ($2,000) and Brandon Bittner, Christina Fath, Allen Wang, Sean McAteer ($1,000).
The Ed Oberman Award for Accounting in the amount of $1,500 was awarded to Dominic Leonetti.
The Business and Personal Finance Award, sponsored by Parke Bank, and presented by Manager, Mr. Sulpizio, is awarded to the graduating senior who demonstrates a strong understanding of business and personal finance concepts, and who is planning to pursue a career in the financial industry. The recipient of a $500 check was Vince Romano.
The Business Education Department School Store Award, sponsored by the School Store, and presented by Ms. Molloy, Business Education Teacher, is presented to the marketing education students who have contributed the most to the school store. The $200 awards were presented to Christina Franks, Kate Merrill and Olivia Schaffer.
The Marketing Education Student of the Year is sponsored by MBM Sport Center. The scholarship is awarded to the marketing education student who has shown the greatest ability in all phases of the classroom situation, DECA participation and on-the-job competency as evaluated by teachers and employers. This year’s recipient of $100 was David Rosenberg.
The Business Education Department Award is presented to the graduating male and female senior who is most likely to succeed in the world of business as demonstrated by the student’s attitude, personality, diligence, human relations skills and work ethics. This $100 award was presented to Hannah Zaborowski.
The Business Education Honor Society Award is presented to graduating seniors who have worked diligently and contributed time and energy to make the organization successful. Dominica Veneziano and Hannah Zaborowski each received $350.
The Business Education Scholars Award is presented to the senior who has at least 10 credits in Business Education, who has excelled in all classes and who ranks in the top 10% of the senior class. The award of $350 was presented to William McCusker.
The DECA Learn & Earn Award is presented to the graduating senior who exhibits entrepreneurial principles. $200 was awarded to Brandon Bittner.
The Outstanding DECA Student Award is presented to the graduating senior who has gone beyond the call of duty and whose dedication has aided in promoting DECA’s quality experience to all students in the high school. Matthew Logiovino was awarded $200.

The following elementary and middle school PTO awards are given annually to seniors who spent their elementary and middle school years at these schools. The PTO and Home & School Council of each of these schools sponsor many events to raise funds for these scholarships.
Birches School PTO and Staff Award for $500 was presented to: Jessica Capone and Emily Panciera.
Six Bunker Hill Middle School PTO Awards were presented to: Angelica Carroll, Kylie Fischer, Ryan Hicks, Anthony Lombardo, Matthew Murgo and Casey Pichalsky.
The Whitman Elementary School Home and School Council presented $500 scholarships to: Luke Molnar and Anthony Lombardo. Brandon Hickson, Rebecca Klavens and Luke Molnar were honored with Whitman Staff Scholarships.
In honor of Dr. Maria Carpenter, former Principal, Chestnut Ridge Middle School presented $500 to a student who attended Chestnut Ridge, exemplified strong leadership skills, involved in outside activities and demonstrated commitment to the community, good academic standing, and accepted to an accredited college or university: William McCusker.
The Vincent Cavalea Scholarship, named after a former Principal of Hurffville Elementary awarded $500 to the following students: Zeina Issa, William McCusker and Casey Shultz.
Wedgwood Elementary Faculty & Staff presented former Wedgwood students Autumn Johnson and Deven Patel with $250 scholarships.
The Orchard Valley Middle School PTO presented a $500 Senior Service Award to a student who was recognized for her academic achievement and contributions to the community: Grace Chambers.
Thomas Jefferson Elementary PTO presented two, $500 scholarships to: Giovanna Raspanti and Christopher Ngo.
Washington Township Youth Cheerleading Association recognized Gianna Micoulucci with a $500 Volunteer Service Award.
The Eileen Abbott Memorial Scholarship is presented in honor of Eileen Abbott who served the Washington Township community as a member of the Board of Education for 27 years. Mrs. Abbott was dedicated to two main concerns – those students who were designated as special education and the often-overlooked kid in the middle. The 2018 recipient of a $1,000 award was Julia Tobler.
The Brian M. Anderson Memorial Scholarship is presented to a member(s) of the graduating class who is in the top 5%, accepted and planning to attend a four-year college, well respected by peers and teachers, humble in nature, helps fellow classmates, actively involved in extra-curricular activities and/or performance programs, and shows leadership qualities. Brian Anderson graduated with honors from Washington Township High School in 2002. He went on to graduate Summa Cum Laude from Villanova School of Engineering, in only 3 years. He died suddenly, just before graduation-this is an excerpt from Brian’s graduation speech he wrote and read at WTHS graduation:
“Washington Township is known for excellent academics but high school has provided us with much more than textbook knowledge. It has instilled in each and every one of us a feeling of community, acceptance and pride. The camaraderie between students, support from teachers and administrators and genuine compassion felt her is truly indescribable. In keeping with Brian’s message, this year’s award of $2,500 was presented to: James Sturniolo.
The Bells Elementary School Memorial Scholarship presents a scholarship of $500 was awarded to: Christina Fath.
The Christopher Biedrzycki Memorial Scholarship has been created in memory of Christopher, a 2002 Washington High School Graduate, a 2007 West Virginia University Graduate, and a former Industrial Engineer for the Philadelphia Housing Authority. Christopher was a funny, smart and well liked young man. He enjoyed fishing and the outdoors. Family and friends have generously contributed to this memorial scholarship, coordinated by the efforts of siblings Michael, 2005 WTHS graduate and sister, Alison, a 1998 graduate. This memorial scholarship was awarded to three seniors who have an interest in engineering and who are planning to major in engineering in college: Rylee Demonteverde ($1,500) and Andrew Krawice ($1,500).
The Colette W. Bleistine Paying It Forward Foundation awarded three, $1,000 scholarships to three Washington Township graduates who exhibited characteristics of Colette Wendy Bleistine. Colette was a 2007 graduate who attended this same Senior Awards Night and received many awards and scholarships for her academic excellence, leadership, character, musical ability and community service. She was born with Cystic Fibrosis. Although her life was not always easy, Colette embraced every moment and inspired many people by paying it forward through acts of kindness and love. In 2012, at the age of 22, she unfortunately lost her battle with Cystic Fibrosis. One of her favorite quotes was…”Your problems are never bigger than your purpose.” Her family has created The Colette W. Bleistine Paying It Forward Foundation as their new purpose, continuing her legacy of compassion, kindness and giving. This scholarship honors students who demonstrate a strong commitment to community service, a positive spirit, a “B” average or above, and those who plan to attend a New Jersey state college or community college. The recipients of the scholarship were: Brandon Hickson, Nicolette Chiaravalloti and Thomas Copsetta.
Superintendent Joseph Bollendorf and his wife, Eleanor, presented two, $500 scholarships in memory of Caitilin Bollendorf, a 2006 Graduate of WTHS. Caitlin passed away in 2009 from a lifelong battle with Epilepsy. Caitlin loved her years at Township, and especially loved her teachers in the special education department. This scholarship is presented to two deserving seniors who will hopefully impact their students one day as much as Caitlin was impacted by hers. The recipients were: Kiley Gelston and Hailey Shaw.
The Keer Family Memorial Scholarship of $300 was presented to a deserving student who has overcome obstacles and who continues to push forward: Allison Davis.
The Tony Bucca Memorial Scholarship, named after Tony Bucca a former high school math teacher was presented to four students who spent many days after school with Tony, and who encompassed Tony’s spirit of determination and perseverance. All four are a credit to Tony’s philosophy to never give up…hard work does pay off…yes you can do it if you try. The Tony Bucca scholarship of $500 were presented to: Sal DiValerio, Sophia Altamuro, Taylor Vincent and Noah Kulis.
The Krissy Call Memorial Scholarship has been given annually since 1993 in memory of Krissy Call, who died of leukemia during her sophomore year. The recipients for this scholarship were: Emily Gillespie ($300), Brandon Hickson ($300) and Autumn Johnson ($300).
The Washington Township High School Class of 1967 Scholarship honors the memory of their classmates who have passed. The recipients of this award have demonstrated high moral character, integrity, academic achievement and who have had a positive impact on the school community. The honorees included William Myers (who will attend an institution of higher learning) and Stephanie Totolou (who will attend a technical/vocational or trade school).
The Robert L. Cookinham Memorial Scholarship has been created in loving memory of Robert L. Cookinham Jr. Rob was an intelligent, inventive and motivated man who strived to be the best he could be. He was a 1984 graduate of WTHS, and then attended vocational school for sheet metal fabrication and began working in his chosen field. He continued attending classes, and advancing his training through hard work and dedication. Rob passed away tragically in 2014 at the age of 49. At this time, Rob has accomplished his goal. He was a Millwright Foreman, overseeing crews, mentoring young apprentices, and inventing new and safer job practices. Rob was a fun loving, respectful, hardworking man who also had a passion for Harley Davidson motorcycles. Rob was a man who loved his family, friends and country. The Cookinham Scholarship awards were presented to: Eric Fernee and Michael Paul.
The Marc DiGiovannantonio Memorial Scholarship was created in memory of Marc DiGiovannantonio. Marc graduated WTHS in 2005. He was a good student and even better athlete, and a great friend to everyone. Marc tragically passed away in September of 2009, leaving behind a son to carry his name. This Memorial Scholarship will enable Marc’s name to be carried on through the years, within WTHS. The scholarship winner, of $500 for 2018 was Sienna Piccoli.
The Toni Doanto-Bolis & Baby RJ Foundation was created to honor Toni and her soon to be soon to be born son, RJ. They lost their lives in a horrific car crash caused by a distracted driver on June 1, 2011. Toni was two days away from giving birth to her second child and was less than a mile from home when her SUV was struck head on. The mission of this Foundation is to raise awareness on the dangers of distracted driving by publically sharing Toni and RJ’s story in schools and other public forums. The Toni Donato-Bolis and Baby RJ Foundation awarded two scholarships to deserving graduating seniors who plan to continue post-secondary education, have achieved academically and have a passion for serving those in need. A scholarship of $1,500 was presented to: Luke Molnar. A scholarship of $1,250 was presented to Bria Riley.
The Washington Township Parks & Recreation Youth Track and Field scholarships and The John Gentile Memorial 5k awarded four worthy high school seniors a $1,250 scholarship. The requirements were as follows: graduating senior, maintain 85 average, participate in WTYTF for minimum of three years, accepted by an accredited college, university, trade or technical school, submit 250 word essay, and letter of reference. We wish you all the best and congratulate you on this special time in your lives. The following students earned the scholarships: Christina Fath. Julia Reilley, Zachary Marrero and Sean Smithson.
The George Gagliaridi Memorial Scholarship honors a former president of WTHS Lacrosse Booster Club. He had a strong work ethic and love for coaching lacrosse. He promoted respect for fellow teammates and was known for his motto "Honor the game." Whether he was coaching his team or watching his sons play lacrosse, he always carried a positive attitude on and off the field. George showed great character and integrity and encouraged giving back to the community. He was enthusiastic in helping young men fulfill their passion athletically in lacrosse, academically in college and substantially in life to become the best person they can be. The George Gagliardi scholarship of $500 was awarded to: Cole Rueblinger.
The Robert H. Householder Memorial Scholarship is presented annually to a member of the Interact Club who has devoted three years of extraordinary service to this organization. Mr. Householder, a former Department Chairperson and biology teacher initiated the first Interact Club in Washington Township. As a result of his membership in Rotary International and his work as an advisor to the WT Interact Club, Mr. Householder was a recipient of the Paul Harris Award for distinguished service to Rotary. Upon his untimely death in 1981, Mr. Householder bequeathed a sum of $100,000 to the WT School district. It was his “will” that the interest acquired from this principle sum would be given in scholarship to a graduating senior who had provided “service to their fellow man” through the Interact Club. Allison Davis was named as the recipient of the Robert H. Householder Award for an undisclosed scholarship that will be determined by the end of June based on the maturity of the principle.
The Interact Service Award, each for $1,000, was presented to: Kiley Gelston.
The Christopher Lawler Philanthropic Foundation Scholarships, on behalf of Christopher Lawler, English teacher extraordinaire, recognized a senior who has been accepted into a 2 or 4- year college and who, by their words and actions have had a positive influence on the student body. The recipient of the award is a student who has palpably helped to enhance the school environment by demonstrating a love of learning and by celebrating individuality, cooperation, inclusiveness, and diversity in a way that transcends simple tolerance. The Foundation honored Autumn Johnson with a $3,000 award.
The R. Roy Leonard, Sr. Scholarship Fund was established by Marie Leonard, the wife of R. Roy Leonard, Sr. and their eight children in his loving memory and in recognition for his lifelong love of music. The Fund awards one, $1,000 scholarship to an outstanding graduating senior of WTHS planning to pursue a music related college education. The recipient shall be selected by the music department of WTHS and shall have demonstrated the qualities of academic excellence, superior music ability, high moral character, and above all, a strong desire to bring the joy of music to others. The recipient was: Antonia Brunetti.
The first scholarship, the Austin Muckenfuss Football Scholarship, is presented to a senior who was a member of the high school football team. Austin’s passions for sports was his way of coping with struggles he faced personally with a reading disability. Through his hard work and dedication, Austin was able to overcome his disability. Understanding the importance of acceptance of classmates, Austin was always looking out for those less fortunate, so that they too felt accepted. Austin was a kind, caring and outgoing young man who always put others before himself. His perseverance and caring heart, both on and off the field, are the same qualities that we found in our winner tonight. The $500 football scholarship was awarded to Eric Reckard.
The second Austin Scholarship specifically is given to honor his memory, his passions, struggles, dedication, acceptance, kind and caring ways. Nine students who exemplify Austin’s character each received scholarships: Haley Murphy ($1,000), William McCusker ($1,000), Brandon Hickson ($1,000), Rebecca Klavens ($1,000), Brea Riley ($1,000), Alexa Liss ($1,000), Casey Shultz ($500), Cassandra Collins ($500), Brandon Searles ($500).
The Bill Lorge Scholarship honors Bill Lorge, a member of the WTHS class of 1992. He had a zest for life, and actively participated in several youth groups in WT. As a freshman at Caldwell College in Caldwell, NJ, Bill served in the college’s Youth Ministry, was a Eucharistic Minister, and was part of the youth choir and guitar group. Bill was involved in starting a Youth Group at the local parish in Caldwell, and helped organize activities for the local CYO. He was also involved with “Project Kids, an organization in Newark. Tragically Bill died in the summer of 1993 on his way home from work at Friendly’s Restaurant In Turnersville. To honor Bill, and other young people like him, the Bill Lorge Memorial Scholarship was established by members of the Church of the Holy Family, and has been awarded each year for the last 20 years to a graduating senior who is an active member of a WT Christian Youth Group. As this was the final year that the Bill Lorge Scholarship, the Lorge family chose to honor three deserving graduates for their talents in youth leadership and their sincere desire to serve others. The recipients were: Brandon Hickson ($10,000), Steven Morrow ($7,000) and Marcus Kern ($3,000).
Ryan O’Hara was a junior at the University of Delaware in 2007 when he was tragically killed in an automobile accident. At UD, Ryan had majored in history education, minored in German, and continued with his love of music by being in the marching band. The Ryan O’Hara Distinguished German Award is given to an outstanding student of German Education at WTHS who took German for at least three years, had a B or better average, was a member of German Club and fostered a love for the language and heritage of German. The award in the amount of $1,000 was awarded to: Jaclyn Welch in memory of Ryan O’Hara, a 2004 graduate of WTHS who pursued his love of the German culture all his life.
The Spirit of Ryan Instrumental Music Award was given to a graduating member of the WTHS Band who was enrolled in the program for at least three years. The award is given in the memory of Ryan, whose passion for music, his dedication and loyalty to the band program, and positive spirt and outlook was infectious to his fellow bandsmen. The $1,000 award was presented to: Grace Robertson.
The Whitman Staff Memorial Scholarship was awarded to: Luke Molnar.
The Debbie Pracilio Memorial Scholarship honors Debbie Pracilio, a long-time Whitman Elementary School Teacher, who lost her battle to cancer in 2014. Tonight’s scholarship honor’s Debbie, for her love of teaching and for the many students she touched at Whitman Elementary School. The winners of a $500 Debbie Pracilio Memorial Scholarship were: Genevieve Zane, Mia Leone and Madelyn Olszewski.
The Jack Peak Scholarship honors a student who views volunteering as an opportunity to change people’s lives, including their own. Jack Peak, a former Marine who was involved with charities and community service, was the father of retired District teacher, Kellie Gorski. The recipient of the $500 scholarship was Brandon Hickson.
The Naz Regalbuto Scholarship was created to honor Naz’s memory and help WTHS students achieve their career goals by awarding scholarships to students planning to attend a four- year, two-year or technical/trade school. As a longtime resident of WT, Naz was a master plumber who owned and operated Regalbuto Plumber in Washington Township for over 30 years. His children, Lisa, ’88 grad, brother ’91 grad, son Billy, ’14 grad and next son Naz, a soon to be ’16 grad., all have positive high school memories. Although Naz lost his battle with pancreatic cancer at a young age of 59, this scholarship foundation was developed to highlight the positive spirit of Naz. The following 13 students were awarded scholarships, along with a certificate and t-shirt: $3,000 scholarships: Brandon Hickson and Bria Riley; $2,000 scholarships: Allison Davis, Anthony Lombardo and William McCusker; $1,500 scholarships: Angelica Carroll and Rylee Demonteeverde; $1,000 scholarships: Alyssa Fooks Sean McAteer, Deven Patel, Vincent Phung, Gianna Pizzutillo and Casey Shultz.
The Derek G. Schnapp Memorial Soccer Scholarship awards a $500 scholarship to a Washington Township High School graduating senior who has demonstrated an interest in the sport of soccer over a three-year period, either as a player or referee, has accepted post-secondary plans and has faced life’s challenges while maintaining a “Never Give Up” work ethic. Derek was diagnosed with sarcoma cancer at the age of 13 and wrote the following on his Facebook pager at the age of 17, four months before his passing: “I’m Derek. Life is worth living. No matter how bad things may seem, there is always love and some purpose for you. If you just love, peace will follow. The world is too messed up to be negative. Being positive will change your life drastically. You will realize your life is nowhere near as bad as you thought. Live life, love much, laugh often, peace.” The scholarship committee is tasked with choosing an applicant that they believe will use their talents to “make a difference” in this world. This year’s recipient was: William McCusker.
The Sabrina Thayer Memorial Award honors Sabrina Thayer, an active member of our community, as both a parent and a school district employee. She spent many years as a lunch aide and special education aide in numerous district elementary schools. When she was diagnosed with breast cancer, she underwent treatment for five years, never giving up hope and still putting others first. Sabrina had a true love for life and was grateful for every day she had on this earth to spend with those she loved. Sabrina passed away in 2012, but her pure joy and love of life will always live on. Her favorite motto during treatment was, “Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass; it’s about learning to dance in the rain.” Tonight, we honor a student who shares a similar story. A check for $500 as the recipient of the Sabrina Thayer Memorial Scholarship was presented to: Emily Gillespie.
The Nicky Brandemarti Memorial Scholarship awards two, $500 scholarships to one male and one female student athlete continuing their education and displays a strong work ethic, is kind and considerate of others and has a positive attitude. These ideals exemplify the late Nicky Brandemarti, Jr. Nicky was a student athlete at West Deptford High School who went on to play football at Fordham University. In addition to setting records at both West Deptford and Fordham University, Nicky was best known for his kindness to others and gregarious personality. With a glimpse of his smile and determined demeanor, one knew he was destined for greatness. Even more impressive was his love for his friends and his zest for life. Tragically, Nicky was lost in the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. He had just begun his professional career as an investment banker. The award is being sponsored by the Nicky Brandemarti Memorial Fund and is being given out at schools throughout Gloucester County. The recipients were: Brooke Hengy and Trevor Sharkey.
A former alum of Washington Township, Jason Gerle, class of ’92, and his wife, provide the Julia Rose Gerle Memorial Scholarship, named for their daughter who was lost to SIDS at a young age of three months. This scholarship went to a student with a 90 average or better, well rounded with an intended career in medicine. This award of $500 was presented to: Amanda Watson.
The BJ Schuler Scholarship honors a former biology teacher at Washington Township High School who lost her battle with cancer. BJ was a positive role model for students. This award goes to a senior in good academic standing, who exhibits honesty, dedication, character, and a friend to all…a great athletic competitor too. The recipient of $500 was: Michelle Ta.
The following award honors a former Washington Township Staff member, Bud Yahnke, a man that gave so much to others. Bud was outgoing, fun loving and optimistic. He was courageous in the face of many obstacles and always continued to set and achieve goals. He maintained a positive outlook on life and the future regardless of life circumstances. He was an inspiration to those of us lucky enough to have known and loved him. In memory of Bud, scholarships of $250 were presented to: Felix Navarro and Nicholas Pearce.
The Thomas Jefferson Memorial Scholarship was pleased to present Edmond Fellona and Dominica Veneziano a $1,000 scholarship.
Greg, Isabel and Ashley Fath, proprietors of Delaware City Bus Company, presented six scholarships. The first four awards go to seniors who played a significant role in the life of a special needs individual often sacrificing their own “free” time to be a part of these individuals’ lives. They embody the spirit of Dedication and Compassion: Cristina Corriveau, Carly D’Agostino, Sarah Forsman and Logan Jeter. The next award is given to three students who daily demonstrate characteristics that help us to appreciate life by their good nature and positive smiles. They embody the true meaning of Optimism and Cheerfulness. The “Brighten My Day” award in the amount of $750 was presented to Alexa Cruz, Liizie Pinto and Julia Tobler.
The ASI Career Institute Scholarship was presented to a senior who is interested in pursuing a career in the medical field and has a need for assistance to continue their education. The recipient of the $12,000 scholarship was Leann Landis.
The Making A Difference Scholarships honor seniors who have played a significant role in the life of a special needs person, often sacrificing their own free time to be a part of these individuals’ lives. For their embodiment of the spirit of dedication and compassion, Phoebe Shaw, Madison Shelburne, Steve Morrow, Autumn Johnson and Rita DeNiculo were each awarded $500.
The Hoffman DiMuzio Community Service Scholarship Foundation awards a male and female student whose service oriented commitment throughout their four years of high school showed a passion for helping others, both within the classroom and within the community. The “Gift of the Heart” Scholarship, $1,000, and Certificate were awarded to: Christina Fath and Deven Patel.
The Washington Township Hurffville Fire Volunteer Company presented two $500 scholarships to Erica Sultan and Connor Troxel.
The Alisha LeDonne Photography Scholarship is named in honor of WTHS graduate Alisha LeDonne in support her community. The award of $500 goes to a Washington Township resident, graduating senior and accepted into a two or four-year college, trade or vocational school. This year the award was presented to: Nicholas Lloyd.
The Rotary Club of Washington Township awarded a $1,000 scholarship to a graduating senior who has been accepted to Rowan University and exemplifies the principles and values of Rotarians – the advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service. The scholarship was presented to: Joshua Ticcino.
The Washington Township Basketball Booster Club (Greg Eliason Scholarships) presented scholarships to students who have been impacted positively by the Basketball Program displaying qualities such as teamwork, sportsmanship and a good attitude. The 2018 awards honored the memory of former commissioner Greg Eliason whose dedication and time spent working with the board for the benefit of all those who were involved was invaluable. The WTPR Basketball Booster Club awarded the following students: Marissa Huynh ($1,000), Trevor Sharkey ($1,000), Alyssa Fooks ($500), Justine Gallo ($500), Stephen Cozzone ($250), Kiley Gelston ($250) and Sophia Spadano ($250).
The Friends by Your Side Scholarship is sponsored by hair stylist Martino Cartier who founded “Wigs and Wishes Powered by Friends Are by Your Side.” The non-profit organization unites salons across the world to provide free wigs to women and children undergoing chemotherapy. The $500 scholarships were presented to: Reilly Dever, Alexis Ficchi, Kayla DiCresscio and Nicholas Naimoli. Martino also presented two “Unsung Hero” $500 scholarships for their tireless efforts to Adriene Brookstein and Grace Robertson and three “Mindful Leadership” awards for efficient, judicious and often behind the scene oversight. These $500 scholarships were presented to: Nada El Amani, Nasir Randolph-Powell and Giovanna Raspanti.
The Washington Township Parks and Recreation Youth Field Hockey Scholarship is awarded to high school seniors who have participated in the program. This award is not based on athletic ability but on the applicant’s scholastic achievements, citizenship, extra-curricular activities, and application information. The recipient of this $500 award was: Jennifer Kerrigan.
The Washington Township Association Awards awarded two $1,000 scholarships to Luke Molnar and Gabrielle Pingol based on academics, sports achievements, club and community activity and years of play.
The Clayton Elks Lodge No. 2132 presented their annual $100 book award scholarships to: Stephen Cozzone and Anthony Scenna.
Egizi Funeral Home presented two $500 scholarships to two deserving seniors who have demonstrated strong character and personal values. To have a strong character and positive personal values is to have good thoughts, good intentions and good deeds, to love and to care for those whom we are close to and are part of our primary social group, such as children, parents, other family members, friends and our community at large. The Egizi Character and Personal Values Scholarships were presented to: Ryan Hicks and Rebecca Klavens.
The Washington Township Fraternal Order of Police presented three $500 scholarships to deserving candidates based on academic excellence, school involvement, community involvement and desire to enter the field of law enforcement. The recipients were Dominic Lamonica, Allison Loftis, and Kaitlin Vitzthum.
The Washington Township Girl Scout Association honored two scouts for their countless hours of leadership and service. The recipients were: Ashlyn Burns-Lynch ($235) and Kelly Clee ($170).
Rowan College at Gloucester County welcomes 20 Presidential Start Smart Scholars. Each recipient received $1,000: Madison Ambrose, Jason Arakelian, Paul Dimaio, Nicholas Gaetano, Meghan Gillies, Alicia Griggs, Amber Griggs, Madelynn Harris, Lisa Holleran, Alyssa Ishay, Rachel Keller, Cara Landolfi, Taylor Lynch, Alyssa Martinez, Anthony Mazucca, Spencer Reitano, Elise Scola, Julia Tobler, Samantha Weaver and Madelyn Yerkes.
The Gloucester County Professional Counselor’s Association awards two graduating seniors, who exemplify quiet determination, a sincere interest in others, poise and effective communicators, $150 scholarship. The recipients were: Edmond Fellona and Jenna Matsumoto.
The Gloucester County Area Chapter of the American Association of University Women awarded a certificate and $1,000 scholarship to a female student for her academic excellence, extracurricular activities and commitment. The award was presented to: Marissa Huynh.
Rizzieri Aveda Salon presented two $500 awards for their study of cosmetology to: Natalie Balestra and Stavroula Totolou.
The Greater Woodbury Garden Club awarded $500 scholarships to Luke Molnar and Ryan Hicks for their pursuit of degrees in civil and environmental science, academic achievement, extra-curricular activities, work experience and financial need. The Garden Club promotes the study in all subjects pertaining to betterment if our rich soil and land.
The Kennedy Hospital Medical Staff Scholarship systems scholarship of $2000 is awarded to a graduating senior who has demonstrated academic excellence and who plans on pursuing studies in a health-related field at the college level: Kylie Fischer.
The Marine Corps League Semper Fidelis Detachment presented a certificate and $300 scholarship to Andrew Krawice, Nicholas Lloyd and Justin Parker in recognition of their scholastic, academic and service achievement.
The Washington Township Softball Booster Club, named for William Randazzo, presented $500 awards to: Maddie Gillen and Kristina Rossi.
The WTHS Girls Volleyball Team Scholarships, sponsored by the Booster Club, were presented to six seniors who worked hard on and off the court throughout the season, organized many team fundraisers and have been role models to many. The awards were presented to: Hannah Digiulio, Alyssa Fooks, Marissa Huynh, McKenna Lucas, Casey Pichalsky and Olivia Schaffer.
WPVI’s Best of the Class of 2017 was: Stephen Cozzone.
The WTHS African-American Culture Club presented a $200 award to Siani Feliciano for outstanding service and dedicated membership.
The Class Council four- year service award, certificate and $100, were presented to the following students: Nadia Foderaro, Alyssa Fooks, Maddie Gillen, Michelle Le and Joseph Ricchezza.
The WTHS Dance Program presented its dance scholarship to a student who demonstrated a great work ethic, dedication to the dance program, and have had a positive impact on her dance classes and the Dance Company. The winners of the 2018 Dance Department & Dance Scholarship of $250 was: Nicolette Chiaravalloti.
In celebration of its 20th anniversary Monthly Rewind alumni presented the first Philo T. Farnsworth Memorial Scholarship. Farnsworth was the inventor of electronic television. At the age of 14, Farnsworth presented his idea for electronic television to his high school science teacher. At the age of 21, he produced the first electronic television transmission. This scholarship is given to outstanding high-school graduate that plans to pursue a degree in Radio, TV, and Film in college, and has demonstrated the same type of motivation and dedication that led Farnsworth to create one of the most powerful mediums of our time. The recipient of this $750 scholarships was: Thomas Copsetta.
The Patrons of the WTHS Orchestra is an organization dedicated to the support of the Orchestra program at WTHS. Its primary functions are to raise money for senior scholarship and to organize social events for all of the Orchestra students. The Patrons present scholarships to graduating seniors based on their musical contributions and service to the Orchestra Program. The following musicians received scholarships: Grace Robertson ($750), Marissa Huynh ($550), Deven Patel ($450), AnnaMarie Couce ($450), Michelle Le ($400), Nadia Foderaro ($400), Morgan Wall ($350), Hailey Shaw ($350), Marlee Muha ($350), Shanen Garate ($250), Patrick McGuire ($250), Autumn Johnson ($200) and Allyce Andricola ($200).
The National Honor Society Scholarships of $500 was presented to two students for outstanding service to NHS, and for going beyond their responsibilities and serving the NHS Executive Board with character and dignity: Rylee Demonteverde and Laura Dressel.
The Student Council Award honored the following three students with a certificate and $100 award for four years of service: Christina Fath, Jade Iannace and Luke Molnar.
The WTHS Homecoming Queen Award was presented to a female senior: Lizzie Pinto.
The Mr. Washington Township Scholarship Awards were presented to: Carson Shultz ($500), first runner-up Brandon Hickson ($300) and second runner-up Matthew Murgo ($200).
The Tri-M Music Honor Society Scholarships recognize students for their academic and musical achievement, reward them for their accomplishments and service activities and their efforts to inspire other students to excel at music leadership. The scholarships were presented to: Antonia Brunetti ($200), Allison Davis ($300), Nadia Foderaro ($400), and Grace Roberstson ($600).
The CEE (Community Employment Experience) Work Study Program awarded the Most Dedicated Student Worker: Gaidi Diggs.
The Spanish Club Scholarship recognized a student for four years of membership and exceptional involvement and enthusiasm: Laura Dressel ($200).

WTHS Powderpuff Senior Class Service Awards were presented to four seniors for their work and dedication for the school, community and their fellow classmates. $250 and a certificate were awarded to: Destiny Haruch, Mirabella Broughton, Nadia Foderano and Matthew Murgo.
The Parent Booster Club of the AFROTC Program at Washington Township High School presented a certificate, and scholarship honoring years of service to the following cadets who have participated in ROTC for a minimum of three years, have a minimum of ten service hours per school year, and whose parents are paid members and have participated in a Booster Club event, basket auction, drill competition or car wash. The Way-Off Broadway Players proudly honored Joshua Loomis with a $250 scholarship for adding life, depth, and stage presence to the WTHS stage over his high school career.
The Drama Club Award was presented to Julianna Satterfield for $100 for her determination and hard work this past year.
The Washington Township High School Cheerleading Scholarship was presented to a senior cheerleader with not only a high level of athletic talent, but who also displayed a positive attitude, was a great teammate and a pleasure to coach: Riley Deitz ($250).
The Washington Township Education Association awards scholarships to students who are planning on entering the field of education. Each award is valued at $750. Recipients of the 2018 awards were: Morgan Dougherty and Danielle Evans.
The Township Choir Parent Association awarded its first-annual $500 scholarships to: Amanda Watson, Alexa Liss, Janel Weeks and Madelyn Yeerkes.
Franklin Gahr Atkinson was an alumnus of WTHS who lost his life serving in the Vietnam War. This award is presented in his honor and goes to the girl and boy in the senior class who has made outstanding achievements in the areas of athletics, scholarship, and service. The recipients of the Franklin Gahr Atkinson certificate and $500 awards were: Trevor Sharkey and Madison Gillen.
The Danny Greenblatt Memorial Award is awarded to a graduating senior who has both maintained high academic standards and a high involvement in school and community activities. This $500 award was presented to: Nicole Yates.
Ronald David Heck was an alumnus of WTHS and was the first graduate to lose his life serving in the Vietnam War. This memorial award is presented to the boy and girl in the senior class who have demonstrated, to a high degree, the qualities of patriotism, service, loyalty and dependability. The recipients of the Ronald David Heck certificate and $500 awards were: Auryana Pratt and Jacob Kulikowski.
The Minuteman and Minutemaid Musket Award was conceived to recognize the boy and girl in the graduating class whose quiet efficiency and seriousness of purpose best exemplify the ideals of WTHS. The award of $500 and certificate was presented to: Sean McAteer and Catherine Parchesky.
The Principal’s Award of a plaque and $500 is presented to a young man and young lady who have been judged by the faculty as outstanding in the areas of citizenship, leadership, scholarship, honor and courage. The recipients of the 2018 Principal’s Award were: Jaclyn Welch and Brandon Hickson.
The Washington Township High School Alumni Association developed this award to single out and honor the boy and girl in the senior class who have rendered service and loyalty to their fellow classmates and school. The recipients of the WTHS Alumni Association certificate and $500 award were: Thomas Mazeika and Allison Davis.
The Washington Township Principal’s Association is pleased to announce two winners of its annual $500 scholarship as a result of having a GPA of 93 or higher, member of at least two extra-curricular activities each of the four years in high school; acceptance into an accredited four-year college and evidence of leadership; service to school and community. The winners were: Joseph Ricchezza and Haley Murphy.
The Yvonne Ferrari Memorial Award of $500 and certificate was awarded to Alexa Liss, for her sincere interest in others; personal integrity, humility and friendliness; and, inspiration to classmates.
The Senior Hall of Fame Award of $500 is for a top academic student who has participated in school activities and community service, has the respect and admiration of the faculty and of his or her own peers, and has shown leadership qualities and impeccable character. A plaque, with a picture of the student, will be hung on the Senior Hall of Fame wall. The 2018 Senior Hall of Fame recipient was: Allison Davis.
