Wedgwood Elementary School Fifth-Graders Go for the Gold in the Volume Olympics
WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP – Wedgwood Elementary School students in Mrs. Donna McGough and Mr. Domenick Renzi’s fifth-grade math classes recently took part in the Volume Olympics, where being cubed is cool. The students represented various countries, as they worked in teams to complete various events that required them to apply their knowledge of volume.
One event required students to measure various boxes such as cereal, tissue and oatmeal to find the volume. Another event involved building prisms using connecting cubes to equal a given volume.
Luke McCrae, Jimmy Gallagher, Elena Dabrowski and Anya Rosales took home the gold medals in the Volume Olympics. Max Maletta, Darien Arocho, Cecilia Watson and Makayla Waysome came in second to win the silver. Kyleigh Smith, Gianna Piperata, Aaron Pilla and Ryan Rhubart all took home the bronze for third place.
