Championship Teams Work Together
Washington Township High School Boys Soccer Team Hosts Joint Practice with Township Tornadoes Special Olympics Team
WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP – For the fourth consecutive year, the Washington Township High School Minutemen varsity boys soccer team joined the Township Tornadoes Special Olympics soccer teams for a Unified practice.
These joint practices, the brainchild of 2017 WTHS graduate Robbie Minnick and continued by his younger brother, current WTHS sophomore Jake Minnick, combine the championship teams on the field, where they have each met with success.
With drills set up by the varsity team, the squads worked on passing and defense before ending the night with penalty kicks. It was a fun and productive night for the teams as they prepare for their postseason tournaments.
The Minutemen, coached by Shane Snyder, begin the South Jersey Coaches Association Tournament at home on Friday against Clearview. WTHS is the No. 1 seed and the defending champion.
The Tornadoes head to the Regional Special Olympics Tournament this weekend at Riverwinds in West Deptford. Tornadoes Team 1 is coached by Bunker Hill Middle School teacher Joann Braker. Tornadoes Team 2 is coached by Washington Township Parks and Recreation Challenger League founder and coach Ron Williams. Both Tornadoes teams won the gold medal in their division in last year’s tournament.
