WTHS School Counseling Department Touts Comprehensive Postsecondary Guide for Juniors and Seniors
In an effort to get Washington Township High School juniors and seniors and their families not only dreaming of future possibilities but also planning for them, the WTHS School Counseling Department has loaded its website with helpful information and invaluable resources for students with postsecondary aspirations.
Director of District School Counseling Jennifer Grimaldi crafted a 41-page postsecondary planning guide upon her arrival three years ago as a comprehensive resource for all students whether they are setting their sights on college, military or careers.
“We encourage our students and families to take advantage of the resources that are listed on our school counseling webpage (https://www.wtps.org/wthscounseling),” Grimaldi said. “Our counselors are committed to addressing the academic, career, and personal/social development of all students and assisting them in finding a path to lifelong success. Our planning guide emphasizes important dates – including the school’s college and career fair, visits by military recruiters and National Decision Day – and important questions for students to consider when deciding their career path. There truly is a lot that goes into this important decision.”
Among other topics, the WTHS Postsecondary Guides touches upon:
- Tips for applying to colleges and universities
- Plan on action calendars
- Overview of criteria used for admission
- Tips for making the most of campus visits
- Securing letters of recommendation
- Handling social media and emails
- Comparing schools
- Meeting school expenses
The guide also includes valuable information for the career-training student, the military student, the student-athlete, the gap-year student and students with disabilities.
