Stocking the Pantry
Thomas Jefferson Elementary School Hosts Dress-Down Day to Stock up School Pantry

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP – It was just a year ago that Thomas Jefferson Elementary School Student Assistance Coordinator Sandy Conlin established and began coordinating the TJ Food Pantry. The pantry was created to help any Thomas Jefferson family who might need assistance.
The pantry takes donations of non-perishable food items on a constant basis, which are stored in a pantry in physical education teacher Kevin Hanrahan’s office until they needed. However, the stock was getting a little low recently. So Conlin asked for and received permission from Principal Gary Breen to hold a dress-down day to help the cause. Instead of paying money in exchange for wearing jeans for a day, staff could make a food donation to the pantry.
It was a rousing success, as a full cart overflowed with donations on Wednesday, October 16th.
