Whitman Elementary School Students and Staff “Rock Their Socks” in Honor of Down Syndrome Awareness Day
WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP – The staff and students at Whitman Elementary School did their part to recognize World Down Syndrome Day by “Rocking Their Socks” during remote learning on Friday and Saturday, March 20 and 21, 2020 (the actual World Down Syndrome Day was Saturday).
Principal Ray Anderson challenged the school to wear mismatched or crazy socks to symbolically remind people that, though those with Down syndrome are different, they are still beautiful and wonderful.
Down syndrome is celebrated on March 21st as it is the 21st day of the third month (3-21), signifying the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome.
