WTHS Girls Lacrosse, Softball Staying Connected Through Virtual Practice
The members of the Washington Township High School girls lacrosse team and head coach Sandy Stockl sadly are sidelined by COVID-19, like all of their fellow spring sports competitors, but they are still coming together to find ways to stay connected, ready and hopeful for a return to their season. The same is true for WTHS softball team members and their coach Tracy Burkhart.
In addition to sending positive words, recommended workouts and videos through email, social media and FlipGrid, the lacrosse team, for one, is particularly mindful of the impact that play stoppage has had on seniors.
“The thought of never setting foot on the lacrosse field in high school again is just heartbreaking for our seniors,” Stockl said. “We are putting together a senior spotlight to honor our senior players and let them know what they have meant to our program. We also are working with my booster club to move some events around, like our annual banquet, to ensure, as best as possible, we can still celebrate our kids.”
“We are in the process of putting together more softball drills the girls can do alone or with a family member,” Burkhart said. “We are also reminding them to continue their EDDS – Every Day Drills (wrist snaps, shoulder rotations, throwing progression with quick feet, one hoppers, grounders, high pops, and short hop/quarterback catches) – that we do to warm up before practices and games.”
The teams are eager and ready to get the go ahead to take the field.
