Capsule Unveiling on the Horizon
Washington Township Officials Announce Opening Date for Thomas Jefferson Elementary School 1995 Time Capsule
WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP – Washington Township most certainly was a different place 25 years ago, and on Monday, October 12, 2020, the public will get a small look at just how different things were. Township Mayor Joann Gattinelli, Business Administrator Jason Gonter, Council President Joe Perry and other elected officials will host an 11 a.m. press conference in the Charlotte Cella Memorial Garden, located at the front of the municipal building, during which they will open a 1995 time capsule that was created by second- and third-grade students at Thomas Jefferson Elementary School.
Students in Mrs. Diane Rickenbach and Mrs. Leona Aronovitch’s classes presented the capsule to then-Mayor Gerald Luongo on October 12, 1995. Included were items deemed appropriate by the students depicting life in Washington Township in 1995.
Speakers at the event will include Mayor Gattinelli and former Mayor Luongo. Current TJ School Principal Gary Breen plans to attend with a small group of teachers, as well. Following the press conference, items from the capsule will be on display in the council room. All visitors are reminded to maintain a social distance, and a mask or face covering is required when entering the municipal building or in shared spaces.
For more information, contact Jason Gonter at (856) 589-0520, ext. 239, or via email at jgonter@twp.washington.nj.us.
The Washington Township Municipal Building is located at 523 Egg Harbor Road, Sewell, NJ 08080.
