WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP – Students in Herr Mike McCloskey’s German classes at Bunker Hill Middle School recently made Schultüten to mark the beginning of the school year. Schultüten are cones that can be bought or made and are given to young school children on their first day of school.
The cones, both at Bunker Hill and in Germany, are filled with school supplies, candy, and other treats to help get young students excited for school. Students decorated the cones to represent themselves and their interests along with the phrase “mein erster Schultag,” or “my first school day,” and received German-themed treats such as pretzels, gummy bears, and pencils.”
