WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP - The Washington Township High School Air Force Jr. ROTC unit, under the direction of Commander Lt. Col. Beth Ann Lumpkin and Master Sgt. Jeffrey Hood, recently earned the 2024-25 Distinguished Unit Award with Merit from the Department of the Air Force. The recognition from the Air Force JROTC Headquarters, located on Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama, was a result of the unit’s outstanding inspection results conducted on December 6, 2024.
The award, according to the USAF correspondence, recognizes the personal growth and accomplishment of the cadets, the contributions of the instructors as mentors, and the support of the school and local community.
Two hundred twenty-seven AFJROTC units from across the country earned Distinguished Unit Award with Merit (DUA w/Merit) recognition. WTHS was among only nine units from the State of New Jersey to earn such honors.
“Congratulations to Lt. Col. Lumpkin, Master Sgt. Hood, and to all of our students in ROTC,” WTHS Executive Principal Ray Anderson said. “This is an honor, and you should be proud. Now, let your actions reflect the honor and esteem of the United States Air Force each and every day.”
Added U.S. Air Force JROTC Director Col. Matthew E. Tipton: “These units truly represent the best of our 828 AF/SF JROTC units worldwide. The cadets, instructors, and schools are to be commended for earning their award.”
