An ROTC Tradition
High School’s Air Force Jr. ROTC Unit Hosts Annual “Dining Out”
WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP – The Washington Township High School Air Force Jr. ROTC held its annual Dining Out event on Wednesday, November 14, 2018, in the school’s 9/10 cafeteria.
Dining Out is a military tradition where cadets gather for a meal and listen to a motivational guest speaker. This year, the special guest was Lt. Col. Jere Gainer, the former Senior Aerospace Science Instructor of the WTHS Jr. ROTC (1993-2016) and the man who started the WTHS JROTC program back in 1993.
The “mess,” as the evening is called, has many rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Failure to adhere to these “rules” requires a trip to the “Grog” bowl to drink from the grog. Cadets enjoy sending each other to the grog bowl to drink the foulest-tasting liquid prepared by cadets. The ingredients of the grog are kept secret, but they will not harm anyone.
In the above photo, senior cadets raise their cups during a mass trip to the grog bowl.
