District Elementary Students Enjoy One of Their Favorite Field Trips to Duffield’s Farm Virtually
It certainly can’t replace the actual sensory overload that a visit to Duffield’s Farm annually provides the District’s K-2 students, but Tracy Duffield and District kindergarten literacy collaborator and Thomas Jefferson Elementary School reading specialist Samantha Dulude recently collaborated to bring the farm to the students virtually. As part of Dulude’s “Field Trip Fridays,” students were treated to an entertaining and informational virtual tour of the farm by Duffield and given supplemental activities by Dulude to enhance the experience.
“Tracy did a really great job with the video, with the help of Washington Township High School sophomore Andrew Yerkes,” Dulude said. “She gave our students a tour and told them about how the crops grow, showed them some farm equipment and provided them with great facts and information about farming. As a follow up activity, the students were given an opportunity to choose various fruits and vegetables to create their own gardens. They also were able to create peach and apple orchards. The students also worked to create a newsletter entitled ‘Duffield’s Daily News’ where they were able to write and share stories about all the wonderful things they learned about Duffield’s Farm.”
The virtual experience gave a whole new meaning to “farm fresh.”
