District Representatives Visit with Future ESL Teachers at Rowan University
English as a Second Language (ESL) experts from the Washington Township Public Schools recently stopped into a Rowan University undergraduate class, Planning, Assessing and Teaching in the ESL Classroom, on November 22, 2021, at the invitation of former WTPS teacher and now Rowan professor Laurine Sibilia. District world languages, ESL and family and consumer sciences supervisor Kayla Berry, Bells Elementary School ESL teacher Liani Dillard and former ESL teacher and now Chestnut Ridge Middle School Spanish teacher Scott Mitchell fielded questions from students about their experiences.
Berry, Dillard and Mitchell shared strategies and suggested technology to assist ESL learners and participated alongside the students in an activity developed for Sheltered English Instruction training. The training is designed to teach the future ESL students how to engage with content-area teachers to ensure English language learners' success.
