Whitman Principal Ray Anderson Named to Principal Learning Network
Whitman Elementary School principal Ray Anderson was one 50 principals in the state, and the sole designee from Gloucester County, named to the New Jersey Department of Education’s Principal Learning Network (PLN). As part of the appointment, Anderson recently traveled to the College of New Jersey, where he shared best practices and collaborated with colleagues on the topic of ensuring equity in schools. The group received the endorsement and encouragement of Commissioner of Education Dr. Lamont Repollet as they embarked on a yearlong project to improve equity issues in schools statewide.
“One of the main points of our Principal Learning Network is that ‘children and adults should receive what they need to achieve their potential, and their race, culture, and other characteristics of their identity should not prevent access to opportunities and resources’,” Anderson said. “The commissioner reiterated the important role that principals, as instructional leaders, play in ensuring equity. I am thrilled to have selected as part of the PLN.”
“Mr. Anderson's collaborative and supportive nature will be an asset to the Principal Learning Network,” District director of elementary education Gretchen Gerber said. “We look forward to the valuable information he will bring back to the District in an effort to continue to foster equity in our schools.”
The Principal Learning Network is a yearlong commitment, as the principals involved will meet no fewer than four times during the 2018-19 school year and receive support from the DOE on their school projects.
