Broadway Writers Share Insights and Encouragement with Members of the WTHS Drama Club
Acclaimed Broadway writers, composers and performers Matt Gould and Griffin Matthews engaged regional high school students, including members of the Washington Township High School Drama Club, during an October 6th workshop at Stockton University’s Black Box Theatre. The two conducted workshop activities on writing and performing, while sharing their experiences, performing their work and showing how they have been developing their show, A Family Portrait, at Stockton University.
The duo’s work will be showcased in the musical Lempicka that is slated to open on Broadway next fall. The show traces the dramatic life story of Polish painter Tamara de Lempicka, best known for her Art Deco portraits of wealthy aristocrats and her dramatically stylized paintings of nudes, who transformed herself from a refugee who had lost everything in the Russian Revolution into one of the leading lights of the art world in Paris in the 1920s and ’30s.
