Spotlight on Reading at Whitman
Whitman Elementary School Wildcats Dig Their Claws into a Good Book as Part of Read Across America
WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP – Whitman Elementary School students in kindergarten through fifth grade recently were tasked to share their favorite books via a “Padlet” in Mr. Arthur Yue’s Digital Literacy class. The students posted a short video of themselves reading a page from their book, or they had the option to share a photo of themselves with their book.
"Reading is the key to everything,” Mr. Yue said. “It unlocks the potential to communicate effectively, to learn effectively, and to be a positive member of our community in the future. In my technology class, I like to infuse literacy into my program. I feel it’s crucial for our Wildcats to understand the utter importance of literacy. We make connections to our books’ settings, characters, and plot by diving into virtual field trips. Making connections to our books helps it truly come alive.”
