Board of Education Names Tricia Holmes as Interim Principal at Hurffville Elementary
The Washington Township Board of Education has appointed Tricia Holmes as Interim Principal at Hurffville Elementary School. Holmes, a supervisor in the District’s special education department since 2014, will assume the leadership role in mid-August when current principal Dr. Naté Dawson vacates the post on a maternity leave.
"Mrs. Tricia Holmes is a consummate educator who is accomplished in her current role as an elementary special education supervisor,” Director of Elementary Education Gretchen Gerber said. “Her dedication, problem-solving skills, and love of children will make her transition into this new role seamless. Her philosophy of elementary education, and her desire to support all students, aligns well with Dr. Naté Dawson's leadership style. We are proud that she will lead the Huskies during this interim period."
Prior to her supervisory role, Holmes served as a special education teacher at Washington Township High School since 1997, where she was a member of the Ida B. Wells Liberty Fellowship Teaching American History Grant and served as a pull-out resource and in-class support teacher in history, mathematics, science and foreign language at Washington Township High School. She also participated in curriculum development, writing, alignment and revisions. She served on the textbook adoption committee and as a member of the Teachers Inspiring Pupil Success (TIPS) Team. Holmes served as a summer transition camp counselor and worked as a peer facilitator and as a member of the freshman transition program.
As a supervisor, Holmes evaluated special education staff and coordinated and articulated special education programming at the secondary and elementary levels. She also assisted in implementing IEP procedures and in staff development planning and implementation.
A 1997 graduate of West Virginia Wesleyan College with a bachelor of arts degree in elementary education, Holmes earned a master’s degree in learning disability from Rowan University (2005). She earned a supervisory certification from Rowan in 2006.
