Washington Township High School Student’s Design Selected as New Logo for District Food Service Department
The original design of Washington Township High School senior Allison Cangelosi will soon be featured on the District’s Food Services Departments’ serving carts, uniforms, stickers and in a variety of other locations throughout the District’s school cafeterias.
Students in Dale Biebel’s graphic design class were tasked with creating logos, and District Food Service director Jennifer Mullin was invited into Biebel’s remote class. The students presented and critiqued the designs with Mrs. Mullin as a client.
“Mrs. Mullin gave my students great feedback on what she liked and disliked, and the students helped critique and point out positives and negatives of the designs that she might not have noticed,” Biebel said. “Following the meeting, we sent over the three designs of senior Allison Cangelosi, and juniors Nick Bachich and Hermie Bryant Binas, whose designs were selected as finalists.”
“It was such a great experience to work with Dale Biebel and his talented group of individuals,” Mullin said. “The Food Service Department will be eternally grateful to have our own, individual logo. The students listened to what I asked for and delivered with such creativity and insight. Their talents are definitely beyond their years. The students thought outside of the box, and their designed were amazing. It was quite a challenge to decide, and we had our office staff and cooks to narrow the field. When we had it narrowed to three designs, we solicited the input of Joe Bollendorf (superintendent), Janine Wechter (business administrator) and Harry Finkle (assistant business administrator) to select the winner, and they voiced unanimous approval for Allison’s design. We will use our new logo initially as label for our cookie trays before incorporating all over the District.”
Mullin presented all three finalists with Wawa gift cards for their efforts.
“All of the participants submitted work that took time, showed great attention to detail and incorporated what we had discussed,” she said. “It was an awesome opportunity and a wonderful experience.”
