•  Principal Ray Anderson

It is with great pride that I continue my educational leadership journey and introduce myself as the new Principal of Whitman Elementary School.  I am a career-long employee of the Washington Township school district, a graduate of Washington Township High School, and a former student at Whitman Elementary School.  I continued to pursue my formal education at Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, where I graduated with three Bachelor degrees in German (B.A.), French (B.A.), and Management (B.S.).  I studied abroad at Phillips Universität in Marburg, Germany where my passion for language was enhanced.

My professional career in education began as a Teacher of German and French at Washington Township High School from 2002-2011.  During this time, I immediately determined that I would like to be involved in school leadership, so once again I returned
to Saint  Joseph’s University  to attain my M.S. in Educational Administration.   At Washington Township High School, I served as the Advisor for the National Honor Society, the German Club, and the German National Honor Society.  In addition to teaching and advising, I worked as the Business Manager for the all-school plays and musicals.

Prior to starting at WTHS in 2002, I served as a German teacher and Coordinator of Curriculum and Instruction (1998-2009) and then as Principal (2009-2011) of the Immanuel German Language School, a Saturday German program in Philadelphia, PA.  From July 2011 to February 2014, I proudly held the position of K-12 Supervisor of World Languages and English as a Second Language (ESL) for the Washington Township School District.

During my time in Washington Township and at the Immanuel German School, I have had the unique opportunity to work with every age group from Kindergarten to adults.  I have had the pleasure to teach some amazing students, to mentor and work with talented educators, and to instill my love of learning in others through my enthusiasm, work ethic, and positive attitude.

At Whitman Elementary School, it is our top priority to provide an environment that is conducive to learning, and exposes our students to the rigor of the Common Core standards, while still allowing them to be children and to enjoy their time at school.  This balance is of the utmost importance to help our students become academically motivated and to grow socially as they mature.

Our mission at Whitman Elementary School is to help our students to become critical thinkers, effective problem solvers, good communicators, and to obtain the necessary skills required to continue their education and eventually enter the work force in an ever-changing global society.  We focus on developing character in our students to help them be responsible, civic-minded, and motivated individuals.  I will strive to instill interest in the value of learning a second language in our students so that they may appreciate other cultures and solidify their place in the job market in which knowing another language is advantageous.

Our highly qualified, caring, and trained staff members work tirelessly to deliver instruction that is infused with technology, differentiated to address various learning styles, and content-rich as prescribed in our district’s curricula.  Our faculty and staff are engaged in ongoing, quality Professional Development experiences that embrace current trends in education.

I encourage you to be involved in your child’s education.  Building their confidence is paramount.   Assisting the students with their homework, volunteering at various events, encouraging academic success, and being supportive to the teachers and to the school are all effective ways to do this.  I look forward to working with everyone to make each student’s educational experience rewarding, enriching, and challenging.

    Sincerely,

    Mr. Raymond F. Anderson III
