WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP – It took Wedgwood Elementary School students in grades K through 5 just five school days to solve more than 1,000,000 problems using the First in Math online program. During that time, Wedgwood School also celebrated its first five Grand Champions of the school year: Hannah Chen, a fifth-grade student in Mr. Rob Dobzanski's class, became the first Grand Champion in Washington Township for the new school year. To become a Grand Champion, a student must solve 30,000 math problems.

First in Math was designed with focus, coherence and rigor as its cornerstones. Self-paced activities target mastery of procedural skills and fluencies that are essential for internalizing and demonstrating conceptual understanding in mathematics. Students earn stickers for every three problems solved correctly.
