For Immediate Release
September 27, 2023
WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP – It took Wedgwood Elementary School students in kindergarten through fifth grade less than three weeks to solve more than 2,000,000 math problems using the First in Math online program. During that time, Wedgwood School was led by a trio of first-grade students who became Grand Champions, bringing this year's total to eight. To become a Grand Champion, a student must solve 30,000 math problems.
First in Math was designed with focus, coherence and rigor as its cornerstones. Self-paced activities target mastery of procedural skills and fluencies that are essential for internalizing and demonstrating conceptual understanding in mathematics. Students earn stickers for every three problems solved correctly.
