Theatre Department Summer Opportunities

Washington Township High School Theatre Department to Offer Summer Theatre Camp, Summer Theatre Conservatory

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP – The Washington Township High School Theatre Department is set to offer two exciting opportunities this summer for students in grades 6-12. The department will host a Summer Theatre Camp from July 8-11, 2024, for students entering grades 6-8 in 2024-25. That same week, the department will host a Summer Theatre Conservatory for students entering grades 9-12. Both events are first-time offerings that are expected to be annual options for district theatre students.

 

Summer Theatre Camp

 


WTHS Theatre Department’s inaugural Summer Theatre Camp for district students entering grades 6 through 8 will give young performers the opportunity to ignite creativity and confidence, while also providing them with a safe and supportive environment to explore singing, acting, and dancing. 

 

The cost is $125, and all proceeds to go towards supporting WTHS theatre department activities and productions. Interested students can register now at this link. Space is limited!

 

The camp runs Monday, July 8th, through Thursday, July 11th, from 8 a.m. to noon in the WTHS Play House (11/12 wing auditorium). Lunch is not provided. Camp fees include a camp T-shire, workshops and activities, and a performance the final day that is open to parents.

 

Summer Theater Conservatory


We are also excited to offer our inaugural Summer Theatre Conservatory at WTHS for WTPS students entering grades 9 through 12. The Conservatory offers four master classes led by guest artists who are professionals working in the industry. 

 

The cost is $100 for the four workshops, which covers the compensation and travel for the guest artists. All workshops will be held in the Play House at WTHS 11/12 Playhouse of Washington Township High School.

 

Space is limited (approximately 25 spots) for the Conservatory, which runs July 8-11, 2024, in the afternoons. Interested students should complete the registration form at this link and send payment (check payable to “WTHS Fund-Drama Club) to WTHS at the attention of John Stephan.

 

Guest professionals who will host the master classes include:

 

- July 8th (1 to 3 p.m.)Olivia Paige West, of Tara Rubin Casting Agency, will lead a workshop where students will learn about the casting process, including mock auditions and what you can do to set yourself up for success in the room. 

 

- July 9th (Noon to 2 p.m.)Thayne Jasperson, of Broadway's Newsies and Hamilton, will lead a workshop where students will learn a dance combination from the Tony Award-winning musical, Hamilton. 

 

- July 10th (1 to 3 p.m.) Olivia Elease Hardy, South Jersey native and original cast member of the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical Kimberly Akimbo, will lead a workshop on how to act through a song.

 

- July 11th (1 to 3 p.m.) Justin Mortelliti, proud WTHS alumnus and original cast member of Broadway's Escape to Margaritaville, will lead an acting workshop with the students (monologues, scenes, etc.). Students will learn how to define and elevate their character work and performance.
