Student Recognition/Character EducationBirches School has developed the Good Sports Program. This program focuses on respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, citizenship, and trustworthiness. The Good Sports Program recognizes students in all grades for behavior that is indicative of good character. In addition to this initiative, classroom lessons provided by the guidance counselor and classroom teachers help students to use strategies to resolve conflicts and make good choices. Interactive lessons presented during class guidance sessions are supported by classroom teachers during class meeting times. The Peaceful Playground Program is designed to promote conflict resolution strategies, good citizenship, and fitness. Through collaboration with parent volunteers, community organizations, students, and staff members, this valuable program has become a reality. Students engage in team building games during recess. Participation in numerous service projects and assembly programs that emphasized self esteem, respect for oneself and others, tolerance, and caring provided students with a sense of community and giving.
