Technology applications continue to be infused into every aspect of the curriculum. Students access the Internet through classroom workstations, Computers on Wheels (COWs), and Netbooks. Safari Montage and electronic fieldtrips provide students access to a world of knowledge that exists beyond the doors of Birches School. The Accelerated Reader Program challenges students to read engaging books and then test their comprehension ability through on-line quizzes. The computerized Fast ForWord Program accelerates learning by developing cognitive skills, memory, attention, processing, and sequencing through a series of activities. Our classrooms are equipped with computers, Mimeo Boards, Smart Boards, document cameras, LCD projectors, and Red Cat Sound Amplification Systems. Televised broadcasts are produced and presented weekly by our fifth grade students under the direction of the technology teacher. Sharepoint is used by the staff as a vehicle to share information and websites with colleagues. Staff members also use this service to engage in on-line discussions of topics related to education. Birches School enables family members easy access to grades and attendance using the data management system, PowerSchool. The school website and staff eBoards provide families with detailed information regarding daily events and curriculum information.
