• book exchange

    • Students borrow a library book each week (Kindergarten borrows one book, all other grades are two books) as per our district guidelines.

    • Please try to be aware of your child’s Media Studies day and designate a safe spot for library books in your home.

    • If your child packs a water bottle in their backpack, please place any borrowed books in a plastic bag in the backpack to keep them safe from any leaks.

    • You do not need to bring your child’s book to school if it is forgotten. Your child may return it next library class.

    • Please learn your school lunch code, as this is the code needed for borrowing books.

    book care

    • Remember to return your books to the media center on the day they are due, so that others can read them. Book(s) are to be returned before another can be borrowed.

    • If you find a damaged book, or your library book accidentally rips, give it to the media specialist. Library books are mended with special materials.

    • Always carry your books in a plastic bag in your bookbag so that they stay clean and dry.

    • Keep your place in a book with a bookmark, not by folding the corner of the page.

    • Turn the pages of a book with care by using the top or bottom corners of the page.

    • Keep your books in a safe place at home where little brothers, sisters, or pets cannot bother them, or leave them in your backpack.

    • Keep books away from drinks and food.

    • Never write, color, or glue inside of a book.

    • Always handle books with clean hands.

Thank you for taking care of our library books!

    damaged/lost books

Our library program not only encourages a love of reading, but also teaches the importance of responsibility. Taking care of borrowed materials and returning them on time are valuable life skills. Your cooperation in helping your child develop personal responsibility with library books is greatly appreciated.

The following district rules will be enforced in the library:

If a book is lost or badly damaged, we will request the replacement cost of the book. You may send in cash or a check made out to Birches School (Media Studies Book Replacement in Memo) for the amount of the book.

    grading

Students will receive a Media Studies grade on their report cards twice a year. The grade is determined by participation, effort, classwork and special projects.
