"Teen Librarian by Appointment"
This program is for grades 6-12 for academic help, particularly with improving research, using the library's offerings, test taking skills, and writing skills. Timeslots are available Monday - Wednesday by appointment only in the teen area. Contact the teen librarian (me) for an appointment other than what is already available through our online registration for Wednesday afternoons. The middle school students I've worked with recently have been looking for help writing paragraphs about current events and informative compositions. We meet in the teen area, had discussions on the phone (ext 224), or we have simply corresponded through emails. (Whichever works best!)
"The Writing Club"
July 14 and August 11 at 5:00 pm -- in the teen area (or on ZOOM if desired)
This program is designed to support creative writers from grades 6 - 12. Currently, we're starting to discuss fantasy writing in a lead up to our summer writing challenge -- an original story using the summer reading theme "Oceans of Possibility." Stories must be electronically submitted with a maximum word length of 750. Due by August 15 at 9:00 PM, the winning story earns a gift certificate for $50.00 to spend at Barnes and Noble and will be published in the Teen and Tween Newsletter as well as on the library website. Each season the Writing Club has a challenge open to all patrons in grades 6 - 12.
Summer Reading Program -- BINGO!
We've made special Teen/Tween BINGO cards for our summer reading challenge. There's reading, attending programs, and writing opportunities all wrapped up together in this program. Submitted cards will earn chances in our summer reading drawing for teens and tweens. The winner gets a $50.00 gift certificate to Barnes and Noble! The contest starts next week and ends on August 23rd.
