Bunker Hill Middle School sixth-grade math teacher Maria Casella admittedly entered the FabOver40 NewBeauty Magazine contest on a whim, but now ranks as a semi-finalist in the contest and has raised nearly $6,500 for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
Voting to advance Casella to the final round is open until December 8th. The process is free, but participants also can place a “hope vote” through a donation to the charity. A $20 donation garners Casella 20 votes.
“I am so appreciative of the support of my family, my colleagues and the community,” Casella said, whose mother struggled through two bouts of the disease. “It would be remarkable to win the contest, but I am thrilled to be spreading awareness and helping this wonderful cause.”
The contest winner will be featured in NewBeauty Magazine, take home $40,000 and be treated to a spa-cation.
