GTECC Students Connect with Nature the Butterfly Way
For Immediate Release
October 10, 2024
WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP – Entering it's 3rd year at GTECC, the Butterfly Way Station is a wonderful place for students and staff to connect with nature while helping to preserve wildlife.
Students in Jennifer Tistan's class were able to be a part of The Monarch Watch program by rehoming 25 caterpillars onto milkweed in their garden. The students were fully enganged and many put the caterpillars on the milkweed gently all by themselves!
Mrs. Otto's class joined in and supported the effort in her classroom until they emerged and were released into the garden.
Master gardener from Gloucester County Certified Gardeners, Miss Bee, speaks to the class about the importance of bees.
Now the Monarchs are on their way to Mexico. The garden will sleep until spring comes and they can enjoy the life cycle of the Monarch Butterfly again.
