Washington Township High School Engineering Club Hosts Second Annual “Spring Fling” Catapult Competition/Fundraiser

For Immediate Release
April 17, 2025

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP – Washington Township High School’s Engineering Club hosted its second annual “Spring Fling” catapult competition on Wednesday, April 16, 2025. The event is used as a fundraiser to benefit the Sophia Bennett Memorial Scholarship Fund.

More than two dozen WTHS students have spent much of this school year fabricating and adjusting their catapults in preparation for the competition. They broke them out for the Spring Fling competition against teams from Rowan University and the University of Delaware. The theme of the event was golf, with teams attempting to catapult balls closest to a pin set up in the distance. Delaware won the competition by six strokes over the WTHS team.

The event raised $435.50 to put towards the Sophia Bennett Memorial Scholarship Fund. Sophia was a sophomore in the Engineering Club when she lost her life in a tragic accident last spring. The scholarship will be awarded to a student who best represents Sophia as determined by her peers.
