    Katherine Carey

     
    Appointed to this new role in 2019, Katherine Carey will serve as the District Testing Coordinator and supervise the student registration process, student data, evaluation data, and informational technology processes and procedures required for State reporting. Additionally, she manages and coordinates all federal, state and district standardized testing programs, including scheduling, security, compliance and annual report responsibilities. Carey supervises all public relations/communication efforts representing the District, including social media and the cable-access television channel. She was previously the Washington Township Schools’ Assistant Director of Assessment, Counseling Services, and Educational Programs Support. She has been with the District since 2012.
     

    Prior to her arrival in Washington Township, Carey served from 2010-12 as the supervisor of curriculum and instruction in the Township of Franklin Schools in Franklinville, N.J., where she coordinated all district testing and the analysis and disaggregation of testing data, and managed the district’s basic skills program. She developed and implemented Franklin’s professional development plan as well as the standards-based curriculum of the Pre K-6 district.
     

    Prior to her appointment in the Township of Franklin, she worked as a K-5 academic coach for mathematics (2008-2010) in the Woodbury Public Schools, where she planned and conducted in-services for teachers, administrators, grade-level teams and support staff for three elementary schools to enhance the quality of instruction and to ensure the articulation of curriculum.  She assisted in the creation of professional learning communities and assisted teachers in learning and practicing effective instructional strategies with an emphasis on differentiated instruction.
     

    Carey served as an elementary school teacher (second-and third-grade teacher and a fifth-grade basic skills instructor) at Evergreen Avenue School in Woodbury from 2004-2008. She was honored as the school’s Teacher of the Year in 2006-07. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education and Psychology (2004) and a master’s degree in Teacher Leadership (2009) from Rowan University. She holds certifications as an elementary teacher (K-8), a teacher of mathematics (K-8) and a teacher of reading (K-12), as well as school administrator, principal and supervisor certificates.
