    Dr. Pamela Nathan

The Washington Township Board of Education recently approved the appointment of Dr. Pamela Nathan as the District’s new Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction. She began her tenure on July 3, 2023. Dr. Nathan comes to Washington Township from the West Windsor-Plainsboro Regional School District, where she held the same position since July 2019. Previously, she served for five years in a similar role with the Freehold Township School District, and she was Freehold’s supervisor of special education for two years prior to that promotion.

“Dr. Nathan joins Washington Township with a wealth of knowledge and expertise when it comes to curriculum and instruction, and education in general,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Eric Hibbs said. “We are very fortunate to be able to add someone with her credentials to our administrative team. Her leadership skills and diverse background will be a tremendous asset to our District.”

Prior to coming to New Jersey, Dr. Nathan served as an elementary and middle school building administrator in Union County, North Carolina. In 2012, she earned her doctoral degree in educational leadership from Wingate University in North Carolina. Dr. Nathan has a bachelor of arts degree in anthropology from the University of Rhode Island, and she received her master’s degree in educational administration from St. Peter’s University. Before becoming an administrator, Dr. Nathan was a middle school science teacher.

As Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, Dr. Nathan will, among other duties, serve as District Chief Administrative Officer in the absence of the superintendent. She is the instructional and strategic leader for all instruction personnel, directing the operation of the Curriculum Department by deploying supervisors and directors, as needed. Dr. Nathan is responsible for the oversight of the local professional development plan, in-service programs, and budget preparation for all instructional areas.

Dr. Nathan will visit classrooms and observe teachers, monitor the supervision/evaluation program, and oversee curricular programs as approved by the Board and the superintendent. She will investigate parent and public concerns regarding instruction, oversee the standardized testing program, analyze master schedules, and monitor District priorities in staff development, recognition, gifted and talented education, drug and alcohol education, and testing.

She will report on instructional accomplishments and areas needing attention, supervise preparation of state Quality Single Accountability Continuum reports, and maintain positive public relations with in- and out-of-district schools, staff and the community at large.

Dr. Nathan’s background includes a focus on leading through personalization, equity, and high standards. Among other notable achievements, she has facilitated the transition of media spaces and curriculum into STEAM/STEM makerspaces, created data toolkits to support digital and non-digital resources, published work on leadership and professional development, and created high- and low-intensity intervention plans for districts. During her tenure in North Carolina, she partnered with North Carolina State University to bring mathematics professional development and resources to her middle school staff.

While at West Windsor-Plainsboro and Freehold, Dr. Nathan presented at numerous national education leadership conferences to share the work and framework collaboratively created to lead change in a high-performing district. These experiences included the 2015 Monmouth County Round Table Professional Development Day; 2015 NJASA Spring Conference; 2016 CITE Conference; 2016 Mid-Atlantic Conference on Personalized Learning; the 2016 & 2017 Personalized Learning Summit; AASA Women’s Leadership Conference (2017, 2019); Techspo in 2018; ASU GSV Conference in 2018; the 2019 NCSM; and the 2019 Southwest PLearn Conference.

A mother of three young adults, Dr. Nathan also is an adjunct professor of educational counseling and leadership at Monmouth University, where she facilitates several graduate and doctoral level courses, as well as performing strategic planning consultation for school district leaders.
