In grade 6, students are introduced to the four general linguistic skills: the ability to use correct German pronunciation and intonation patterns, the ability to converse on a novice level in German, the ability to read basic German, and the ability to understand basic phrases and commands given in German. This is accomplished through the material and activities as presented in the beginning chapters of Deutsch Aktuell I.
In grades 7 and 8, students will continue the study of German through their continued use of the textbook series, Deutsch Aktuell I. Basic grammatical structures and conversational units are presented, in addition to building upon those skills introduced in grade 6. Aspects of German culture are also introduced.
