Reading Efforts Earns Grenloch Terrace Early Childhood Center Kindergarten Class a Virtual Assembly with the Phillie Phanatic
WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP – Things were a little … greener for the students in Mrs. Angela Otto’s kindergarten class on Wednesday, January 13th. The Grenloch Terrace Early Childhood Center teacher won a contest that earned her classroom a virtual assembly with the Phillie Phanatic – the lovable, furry mascot of the Philadelphia Phillies.
Mrs. Otto’s class has excitedly taken part in the Phillies’ “Phanatic About Reading” program this school year, which encourages young students to read 15 minutes per day. Mrs. Otto wrote a short essay about how dedicated her students have been to learning, even during the pandemic and the challenges it presents. The essay earned the class a Virtual Phanatic Experience.
On Wednesday, the Phanatic joined a virtual call with Mrs. Otto, GTECC interim principal Andrea Salstrom and the entire class. Mrs. Salstrom read the book The Phanatic’s Hero, and they all sang “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” together.
